If you’ve ever had a chance to visit one of our tap rooms, you know that we put a lot of effort into making unique small batches of beer. Some of these eventually get canned, or even turned into a year-round beer like the Citra Pale Ale, some are never brewed again. We learn from every batch of beer that we produce though, and our rotating experimental IPA series is a perfect showcase of that.
This year’s inaugural batch showcases some of our favorite hops, which together, deliver a punchy combination of hop goodness for one of our favorite IPAs yet.

Upslope’s Experimental IPA Tap Room Series
Over the last few months, our tap rooms have featured a rotating lineup of pilot IPA recipes that have all been experimental recipes featuring new hop varieties. Experimental IPA series 1-5, which included tweaked, and sometime confusing, recipes like 5.0, 5.1, and 5.2, have spawned an entirely new seasonal can in our lineup. Our 5th rotating seasonal can, the official 2017 Experimental IPA, will be available from now through June when we bring back our Thai Style IPA.
“This annual Experimental India Pale Ale series is our chance to show our brewing team’s commitment to innovation and the exploration of hops,” said Upslope Brewing’s Head Brewer, Sam Scruby. “This year’s inaugural batch showcases some of our favorite hops, which together, deliver a punchy combination of hop goodness for one of our favorite IPAs yet.”
New Seasonal Can Through June!
This new India Pale Ale, which is closest in recipe to Experimental IPA 5.2, is a robust west-coast style IPA featuring refreshing fruit-notes from some of our favorite hop varieties. Brewed with Mosaic, Idaho #7, and Lemondrop hops, this IPA features melon and grapefruit accents and a pale-golden color. The hops are definitely the star of the show here, but a distinct grain build gives this IPA a bit of malty sweetness to almost balance the depth of hop flavors and aromas. This beer weighs in at 6.4% ABV and 65 IBUs.
The 2017 Experimental IPA will be available in both tap rooms, and in 12oz. cans from now through June. Don’t miss out on our new experimental IPA series, renamed to the Pilot IPA series after our inaugural 2017 Experimental IPA was selected, because we’ve confused everyone enough already. The Pilot IPA 6.0 features Mosaic, Denali, and Galaxy hops and is available in our tap rooms for a limited time.
